UX Designer

About Procurated:
We build technology to empower public-sector purchasers and suppliers by improving the efficiency of the government procurement process. Procurated allows public-sector purchasers to review the suppliers they work with, helping other procurement professionals make informed decisions as they select their next supplier. We also work with government suppliers, helping them understand the needs of the public sector and improve their performance. In serving two sides of the marketplace, we simplify and streamline the procurement process.
What is the role?
We are looking for a remote, US-based UX Designer to help us as we continue to develop our platform and build a tool to help procurement officials across the country. Design at Procurated starts with the UX Designer collaborating with product management to build a shared understanding of the target user’s underlying needs from internal conversations with stakeholders and external interviews with customers and users. They work closely with engineers to understand the technical context, challenges, and opportunities for designing a product at scale. They push their concepts to the edge of what’s possible and iterate into what’s feasible. They gather feedback and critique from their peers early and often. They evaluate their ideas and assumptions with real prototypes and interviews.
Within the agile development process, UX designers think iteratively towards a broader outcome. They gather feedback, propose solutions, evaluate decisions, and adjust to new information from the field. They build the best user experience possible to make Procurated an indispensable part of the procurement process.
About your experience:
  • You have 3-5 years experience creating great user experiences and designs. You have a portfolio that effectively showcases your decision-making and experience designing complex multi-step products for the mobile and desktop web.
  • Collaboration and communication are important to you. You love to listen, ask questions, and learn from users so you can translate that into your design framework and use it in effectively describing your approach and your decision-making. You own your seat at the table and lead with your strong opinions, weakly held. You do what you say you’ll do and adjust expectations along the way as things change.
  • You have strong visual design experience. You sweat the details, think in systems, and push for design excellence. You prioritize and prefer creating reusable design components & patterns and relish the opportunity to create and build up a design system. You are organized and detailed in your work processes, research, documentation, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • You are excited about the impact of your work. You have an entrepreneurial spirit, and are excited to make an impact on user behavior and know that every design choice is an important one.
  • You have experience working in an agile product development environment. You know how to work with other disciplines to drive the right outcomes for our users and the business. You own your part of the process and pitch in where help is needed.
  • You live somewhere in the United States.

  • Closing out the day with our board game night or company-wide "Fridays at Four" virtual happy hour. You'll have lots of opportunities to get to know the team outside of typical work interactions.
Our Team

  • We are constantly evolving and learning: We keep our process flexible and iterative, just like our code. If something in our current setup isn’t working, we adjust our process to fix it – and we are all empowered to do so.
  • We value diversity: We have a diverse set of skills, backgrounds, and interests, and we celebrate and value each other’s work and growth both within and outside the company
  • We all have a seat at the table: We all get a say in how we work and are continually refining our process from sprint to sprint during our bi-weekly retrospectives.

What is the hiring process?
Our hiring team reviews all applications and we generally conduct our conversations via Zoom but can adjust the process as necessary to accommodate candidates’ needs.
  • Initial Screen: You’ll have a relaxed initial conversation with a member of the hiring team and tell us a bit about yourself, as well as learning more about Procurated and the particulars of the role.
  • 1 on 1 Design Interview: You’ll chat one-on-one with a member of our Product/Engineering team. We’ll go through your resume and background. We might ask you to share your portfolio, and some research/design philosophies, but nothing particularly challenging. No big presentation here!
  • Final Round: You’ll do a design presentation to members of our product/engineering and leadership teams. We’ll give you a prompt and ask you to present to us to share your design thinking and work. This is not meant to be a time-consuming exercise, rather an opportunity to show us how you approach your work. In this conversation we’ll also discuss company culture and answer any outstanding questions you have about Procurated.
Not sure if you meet our requirements? Please apply! We know that everyone’s engineering journey takes its own path and no job description can fully capture the value that a diversity of experience brings. We highly encourage interested candidates to apply, even if they don’t meet all the criteria listed here.
